We’ve built this FAQ specifically for the 2026 hunt year in Michigan. For other FAQs covering our entire project, please click HERE
Q: I didn’t hear about or participate in Cloaked Treasure’s 2025 hunt. What the heck is this? A: We develop escape room style puzzles for people to solve across Michigan for prizes! Our hope is to challange your intellect and give you a great reason to get out and explore the state while meetings some new friends. As a bonus, you have a chance at a number of cash prizes…and it all costs less than a boardgame to play.
Q: 2025 consisted of 9 individual hunts that fed into a final grand prize hunt. Will 2026 be similar? A: Will are still planning on running multiple hunts, but there will be some key changes this year that we think people will enjoy. These include: 1. We will be running 5 FREE hunts with small prizes. There will be a set schedule for each release and the general geographic area will be defined to help seekers know if they want to participate in that particular hunt. 2. We are hoping to run 3-4 “event” hunts through the year. These will be in specific location with defined parameters. 3. Finally, on Aug 1st, we plan on releasing the clue to a 5 part hunt that will serve as the main event this year.
Q: What will the prize pool be this year? A: The free hunts will have $200 prizes. The event hunts are still being worked out as we work with sponsors for the events. The final prize will be $5000, which is a bit smaller than last year. We hope to grow the prize inline with participation.
Q: Free you say? How can I play those? A: That is easy! We have set up our site to allow people to register for free. As long as you are registered BEFORE the clue release for a free hunt, you are elgible to collet the prize if you are the first person to solve it. If you sign up after the clue release, you can still play, but you won’t be able to claim a prize for 10 days after you register.
Q: Can you describe what you mean by an “event” hunt? A: While these may take a number of different forms, the general idea is to date a date (typically a weekend), take registrations, and run a sprint hunt in a specific location that we expect to be sovled in 24-48 hours. It allows people to make a day or weekend out of our game and not have to commit weeks or months to working through potential solves for one of our typical puzzles.
Q: What can you tell us about the main event? A: We are planning on a single storyline (clue) that leads you to four different BOTG locations. Each location will have another clue. With the 4 clues, you can determine the fifth and final location where the prize awaits. And don’t worry, the first person to find each clue will be rewarded, but then the clue will be revealed to all.
Q: Will you still release hints? A: Yes – we have a defined hint schedule for each free, event, and main event stage. We try our best to find the sweet spot between easy and difficult, but it isn’t any fun if eveyone is stuck on one of our puzzles. For those of you that have participated in escape rooms, this is the walkie talkie hint, but it gets released to everyone at the same time.
Q: Can you tell us anything more about the puzzles? A: Our puzzles can take many forms including riddles, ciphers, picture clues, and many others. Obviously we need to make sure they can’t be easily solved with standard google and A/I tools. So we have to get pretty creative in how we link things together. You can check out our 2025 hunt archives for the puzzles and solutions we used last year.
